A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man's body in the Finglas area of Dublin.

The man, believed to be in his early 20s, had been stabbed a number of times.

Gardaí have established the man's identity but are unable to release it.

They want to speak to taxi drivers or delivery workers who might have been driving in the area at around 5am.

A passing taxi driver raised the alarm at around 5.15am after seeing the body at the junction of Cardiffsbridge Road and Tolka Valley Road.

The area of Cardiffsbridge Road and Tolka Valley Road has been closed off.

Dublin Bus services in the Finglas area were also affected by traffic diversions put in place after the discovery.

Man shot in Finglas

In a separate incident, a man in his 20s was been wounded in a shooting in Finglas.

Gardaí say he was shot in the lower back in Casement Park at about 5pm this evening. His injuries are not life threatening.

He is being treated in Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown.

The incident is under investigation.
