C&D Foods has announced 29 redundancies at its Edgeworthstown plant where it employs a total workforce of 312.
Managing Director Philip Reynolds confirmed the redundancies this afternoon in a statement.
C&D Foods is the largest supplier of own-label petfood products to the Irish and UK markets.
The company said the ‘unprecedented and continuing weakness of sterling’ is a major cause of concern for the company's business in Ireland, where 90% of its entire manufactured product is exported to the UK.
20 jobs will be lost when production on one line ceases at Easter, and there are no immediate plans for it to restart. Automation in another section of the plant is responsible for the remaining nine redundancies.
