Three people have been killed in separate road collisions in counties Kilkenny and Kildare.

A 16-year-old boy died when the car in which he was a backseat passenger crashed into a tree on the Callan road at Cuffesgrange in Co Kilkenny at 5.30am this morning.

The driver and frontseat passenger are being treated at hospital in Kilkenny.

Witnesses are asked to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056-7775000.

The N76 Kilkenny to Clonmel road is expected to stay closed for most of the day.

In a separate accident, a woman died when her car collided with a truck at Ballyhale in Kilkenny at 7.20am this morning.

The N9 Waterford to Kilkenny road is also closed and gardaí are warning of the risk of some bad ice patches lingering.

Man dies in Kildare collision

A man died when the car he was a passenger in collided with a tree at Cromwellstown, Kilteel, Naas in Co Kildare last night.

The 33-year-old was taken to Tallaght Hospital after the collision at 8.30pm but was pronounced dead some time later.

Two other men who were travelling in the vehicle at the time were also taken to Tallaght Hospital.

Anyone who may have witnessed the blue BMW between Kilteel and Cromwellstown Cross prior to the incident is asked to contact Naas Garda Station on 045-884300.

Garda Ombudsman investigating Donegal crash

Meanwhile an investigation is under way after a car being pursued by gardaí crashed near Creeslough, Co Donegal. The Garda Ombudsman is investigating the crash in which a 19-year-old man was seriously injured in the early hours of this morning.
