A 43-year-old man has appeared in court in Dublin charged in connection with an investigation into the fatal shooting of a Dublin man in Co Offaly almost five years ago.
The body of 27-year-old father of two Paul Ryan was found at Coolderry near Birr on 12 April 2003.
He had been shot in the head.
John O'Hanlon from Millwood, Kilbarrack in Dublin appeared today at Cloverhill District Court charged with committing an act with intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of another person who has committed an arrestable offence.
The alleged offence is said to have occurred on the day of the fatal shooting.
The charge has been brought following an investigation by local officers in Offaly and members of the Serious Crime Review Team based at the National Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
Sergeant Dermot Drea of Birr gardaí told the court Mr O'Hanlon had nothing to say when charged this morning.
Mr O'Hanlon, who is currently unemployed, was granted legal aid.
There was no application for bail and Mr O'Hanlon was remanded in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on 23 January.
