A former leading loyalist has been charged with the murder of a paramilitary rival eight years ago.
The court in Belfast heard the only evidence against the accused came from two witnesses who were originally also charged with the killing.
There was a large force of armed riot police around the court building when 39-year-old Darren Moore appeared, charged with the murder of Tommy English in November 2000.
Mr English, a senior figure in the Ulster Defence Association, was shot dead in front of his wife during a loyalist feud in which seven people were killed.
Mr Moore, who strenuously denied the murder charge, was remanded in custody.
