Gardaí have launched an investigation after a man was shot dead in Dublin.

The shooting occurred on Bargy Road, East Wall at 7.15pm.

The victim, who was in his 50s, was taken to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

It is believed he was from the East Wall area.

Gardaí are trying to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them at Store Street Garda Station on 01-6668000.
