A rare edition of a Latin work published in London almost 500 years ago has been discovered at Kings Inn Library in Dublin.

Just ten copies of the text by Cicero on old age are known to survive internationally.

Eight are in Britain and two are in the USA.

No other copy is known to exist in Ireland.

The edition was found by Professor Colum Kenny of Dublin City University.

Prof Kenny was carrying out research for the 19th Hugh M Fitzpatrick Lecture in legal bibliography to be delivered tomorrow on the relevance today of the Cicero collection at King's Inns Library.

He describes the text as a treasure and says it has been preserved in good condition.
