A man has died in what gardaí believe was a hit-and-run incident in Monaghan earlier today.
Gardaí have confirmed that the man, who was found dead on the road between Carrickmacross and Kingscourt in Co Cavan this afternoon, was the victim of a fatal road traffic incident.
They have appealed for anyone who was on this stretch of road between 2.30am and 2pm to contact Bailieborough Garda Station at 042 96 94 570.
It is understood the victim was in his late 20s. He has not yet been formally identified.
The section of road where the incident occurred is expected to remain closed until tomorrow afternoon. Diversions are in place.
