Two men were stabbed in Derry and Portadown during overnight violence.

Three people were arrested after a person was knifed in the neck during a late night row in Portadown, Co Armagh.

The 23-year-old victim intervened in an altercation involving a friend in Thomas Street shortly before 2am when he was attacked.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police detained three suspects.

Meanwhile, in Shantallow, Derry city a 26-year-old man was stabbed several times in the body shortly after 1am.

He is in a stable condition in hospital following the incident in Drumleck Drive.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Stones were thrown at police who attended the scene but after they liaised with local community leaders, the situation was calmed.
