A senior officer from the Garda Ombudsman Commission is at the scene of a fatal crash in Muff, Co Donegal.

An investigation team from the GSOC has been examining the scene since early this morning.

Gardaí from Buncrana are also investigating the accident.

A 22-year-old man died in the crash which happened around 1am this morning at a petrol station close to the border with Derry.

A second man suffered minor injuries in the single vehicle crash and was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital.

RTÉ News understands that a garda car was involved in a pursuit at the time of the crash and in such cases gardaí have to refer the matter to the ombudsman.

The road is closed at Muff village from the Texaco garage to Liberty Bridge and diversions are in place while investigations continue.
