A 25-year-old woman has been charged following an assault in west Belfast earlier today.

The woman was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

The woman was arrested after a 23-year-old woman sustained serious head injuries in an assault.

Police say the attack happened in a lay-by close to GAA playing fields on the Andersonstown Road, where the victim sustained serious head injuries.

The PSNI believes a number of people were in the area around the time of the assault, and detectives have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
