Six people have been arrested after gardaí seized 3,000 plasma televisions worth more than €2m in Co Kildare.

The six were arrested outside the village of Carragh following a surveillance operation led by the Organised Crime Unit.

They are being detained at Kildare, Newbridge and Naas Garda Stations.

The televisions were packed into a truck and stolen from a distribution centre in Santry.

The Organised Crime Unit has been targeting the activities of a 59-year-old man well known to them and the National Drugs Unit for some time.

He is one of six people who was arrested at around 9am this morning.

Gardaí found the 3,000 stolen 38cm and 48cm plasma televisions in a garage.

The televisions had been packed into a truck and taken from a distribution centre in Santry, Co Dublin.

Gardaí believe the televisions were being stored in Kildare before being sold on to the black market.

The six are being detained at Kildare, Naas and Newbridge Garda stations and can be questioned for up to 24hrs.
