Two people killed in separate road crashes

Two people have been killed in separate road crashes in Cork city and Co Donegal.

An 18-year-old girl has died in a three-car collision on the main Cork to Dublin road outside Cork city this evening.

The crash happened at around 8pm on the Glanmire Bypass just north of the Jack Lynch Tunnel.

The dead girl is believed to have been a passenger in one of the cars.

A man in another car has been taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The road is closed and traffic is being diverted via Glanmire.

Diversions will remain in place overnight and tomorrow morning.

Earlier a 28-year-old man was killed in a crash at Bruckless in Co Donegal.

The collision happened between 4.30pm and 5pm this afternoon.

It is understood that the car he was driving hit a pole.  The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The N56 Donegal to Killybegs Road is closed at Bruckless following the crash as a technical examination is being carried out.

It will remain closed until further notice.

Traffic from Killybegs is being diverted via Fivepoints and through Ardragh. Killybegs-bound traffic its diverting at Bruckless.

Meanwhile, at least one person has been taken to hospital following a serious accident on the Dublin Road in Drogheda.

The accident happened at around 7.30pm and the road is closed outside the Boyne Valley Hotel.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time.
