Mull of Kintyre - New report on 1994 crash

A new report on the RAF Chinook helicopter crash on the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland 14 years ago is to be presented to British Defence Secretary Des Browne.

All 29 people on board the helicopter, including 25 senior Northern Ireland intelligence experts, were killed when it crashed into a hillside in foggy conditions in 1994.

Campaigners on behalf of the aircraft's crew believe they have uncovered new evidence challenging the findings of an RAF Board of Inquiry, which blamed gross negligence by the pilots.

Other inquiries left the question of responsibility open, and an inquiry in the House of Lords in 2001 - the findings of which were published in January 2002 - found that the verdicts of gross negligence on the two pilots were unjustified.
