The night sky is to be lit up this weekend by several different celestial events.

David Moore of Astronomy Ireland, says the Geminid meteor shower  this weekend will put on an most eye-catching display of shooting stars.

'Everyone in Ireland can see the Geminids and you don't need any telescopes or binoculars just normal eyesight.' says Mr Moore.

Both the planet Mars and the International Space Station will be also be visible.

Mars will be visible all night but  the space station will only appear briefly each night from now until next Friday.
