A 19-year-old man has appeared in court on charges arising from a road accident outside Foynes in Co Limerick last February in which a garda and a fireman were killed.
Niall Shannon from Lenamore, Ballylongford, Co Kerry, is charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Brian Kelleher and Michael Liston at Barrigone near Foynes on 25 February.
He also faces further charges of drink driving and driving with a bald tyre on the same night.
Brian Kelleher was a garda and Michael Liston a fireman. They were both on duty in the area when the fatal accident occurred.
Newcastlewest District Court was told that the book of evidence has now been served and Niall Shannon was returned for trial to the next sitting of the Circuit Court in Limerick in the New Year.
The court also heard Mr Shannon had just completed a three-year carpentry course, that he had no income and that he was living at home.
He was granted free legal aid to cover the costs of his solicitor and a junior barrister at the Circuit Court hearing and he was released on bail to appear at the Circuit Court in January.
