Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of Katy French in Wicklow today.

The 24-year-old model died in hospital on Thursday, days after collapsing at a friend's house in Co Meath.

Medical tests found that she had taken cocaine and a post mortem examination found that she had suffered brain damage.

Tributes were paid at the service in St Patrick's church in Enniskerry by her mother, father and sister.

Her mother Janet told mourners that she had heard the question 'who is Katy French?' asked and she wanted to answer it.

She said Katy brought her smile and sparkle with her and was somebody who readily gave forgiveness.

Through the model's charity work with GOAL, her mother said, Katy had learned the difference she could make.

Katy's sister Jill described her as someone who was able to show love and forgiveness and who was emotionally fearless.

The model's family has requested that donations instead of flowers be given to the aid agency GOAL.

They also said that a memorial service would be held at a later date.

Many figures from the world of fashion, media and sport attended today's service.

The Taoiseach was represented by his aide-de-camp.
