The High Court has ruled that the biscuit company McVitie's must change the packaging on its fig rolls biscuits before launching them in the Irish market.

Irish biscuit makers Jacob's had claimed that the fig rolls produced by United Biscuits, trading as McVitie's, were packaged in a confusingly similar way to their own.

McVitie's had agreed to change the packaging but this action centered on tens of thousands of packets that had already been sent out to supermarkets and warehouses for distribution.

Jacob's had made a similar complaint about McVitie's Cream Crackers but Mr Justice Frank Clarke refused to grant the injunction in relation to the cream crackers.
