Waterford - Fatal traffic accident

A man has been killed in a crash in Co Cork bringing to three the number of people killed in road accidents today.

The accident happened just after 10pm tonight at Rathduff when the man's car collided with a crane and burst into flames.

Emergency Services are currently at the scene.

Earlier today a 21-year-old man was killed following a road accident in Co Wexford.

He was a passenger in a van that went out of control and crashed in Ballydoyle, Ballycogley, Kilmore Quay at 9.40am this morning.

Gardaí investigating the cause of the collision have released a man they arrested earlier under drink driving legislation.

Elsewhere, a man died following a road crash in Co Waterford.

The 54-year-old man was driving a tractor at Melleray Hill, Mount Melleray, Cappoquin at around 10pm last night when the vehicle went out of control and crashed.

He was removed to hospital and died from his injuries early this morning.

Separately, gardaí have named the victim of yesterday's fatal collision in Co Laois as 27-year-old Dhanesh Muthermadathil Sadasivan.

Mr Sadasivan, who is originally from India but with an address on the Crumlin Road in Dublin 12, died in a collision on the N8 between Portlaoise and Abbeyleix.

Gardaí have also named the 54-year-old man killed in yesterday's crash at Cappoquin, as John Devine from Ballysaggart, Cappoquin, Co Waterford.

Meanwhile, the driver of a car and two passengers were taken to hospital in Galway this afternoon after being involved in a collision with a mini school bus near Athenry.

Five primary schoolchildren who were travelling in the 12 seater bus escaped uninjured.

The accident took place at the entrance to the Doon Ri estate on the outskirts of the town shortly after 3pm.

The bus was emerging from the estate when it collided with the car.

A Garda technical team are investigating the scene and the circumstances in which the accident took place.

They said the driver and the two other occupants of the car were taken to hospital 'for observation'.
