A further forensic examination of the family home of a murdered Co Laois man was being carried out today.

A post mortem yesterday concluded that 55-year-old Pat Burke, who was found dead at his home in Ballybrittas, died from multiple blows to the head.

Mr Burke's 53-year-old wife, Anne, sustained non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at a Dublin hospital.

Mr Burke, who was a father of four, had been working for the past five years as a groundsman at the Mount St Anne retreat Centre at Killenard in Co Laois.

Gardaí had been called to his house in the village on Sunday night and found the body of Mr Burke with severe head injuries in a downstairs bedroom.
