Clontarf - Body found in house after fire

A 38-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with a fire at a house in Clontarf where the remains of a human body were found.

Alan Walsh, of 43 Eden More Park in Coolock, was charged with criminal damage by arson at a special sitting of Dublin District Court this afternoon.

The court heard claims that Mr Walsh and two other men were involved in a row at the house on Seafield Road East and that Mr Walsh had set the house on fire.

An application for bail was refused on the grounds that more serious charges would follow.

Judge Aneus Mc Carthy said that the charge was aggravated by the loss of life involved.

Mr Walsh was granted legal aid after the court heard that he was in receipt of a disability allowance and he was remanded in custody to appear again at Clover Hill District court on 17 August.

Gardaí say they are still not in a position to identify the gender of the dead body found at the house.
