The Russian former spy whose extradition is being sought by Britain in connection with the murder of Alexander Litvinenko has said British intelligence tried to recruit him.

Andrei Lugovoy said he was asked to find compromising material about Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Alexander LitvinenkoAt a news conference in Moscow, Mr Lugovoy also claimed that Mr Litvinenko had worked for MI6.

He further claimed that self-exiled Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky was working for British secret services.

Russia has so far refused to extradite Mr Lugovoy, a former KGB agent.

Mr Litvinenko died last November after being poisoned with the radioactive substance Polonium-210.
