Green Party leader Trevor Sargent has said it was a disappointment to lose Dan Boyle in the election but the election of Mary White in Carlow/Kilkenny was a breakthrough.
Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week programme, Mr Sargent said the Green Party had increased its vote in the election.
He said the Green Party position was very much policy focused and it was hoped parties would read its manifesto before they come knocking on the door.
He said this was so that they could be clear that the changes needed are for the economic viability of the country.
He said the Green Party had set out a very clear package of changes this country needs to make and that will be reflected in negotiations.
Mr Sargent said the country needed stable government and the Greens intended to be a part of that.
He said the number of ministerial positions in Cabinet the Greens could secure was a matter for negotiations.
