The European Union has said it sees no reason for Russia's ban on imports of meat from Poland.

President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso said that if there was a reason for the ban then Polish meat would not be allowed to circulate in the EU.

His comments followed an EU-Russia summit on the Volga River.

Mr Barroso also told the Russian government that any problems it may have with an individual EU state are problems it has with the whole union.

He was referring to recent rows between Russia and neighbouring EU members, Estonia and Poland.
