US evangelist Jerry Falwell, a leader of the Christian right, has died aged 73.
Mr Falwell was reportedly found unconscious in his office and was taken to a nearby hospital in Virginia.
He had a history of congestive heart problems.
Mr Falwell was a familiar face on the televangelist circuit in the US while his hard-line views on a range of social issues firmly placed him on the far right of the US political spectrum.
He carried the banner for the religious right into the political arena to battle against abortion, homosexuality, feminism and other issues that conflicted with fundamentalist Christian beliefs.
