Fire destroys area of Belfast's black mountain

A large area of Black Mountain on the outskirts of Belfast has been destroyed by an overnight gorse fire.

The UK's National Trust, which looks after the area, believes it may have been started deliberately, and an investigation is due to be carried out today.

Three fire crews were sent to the mountain to tackle the fire, which affected up to 50 acres of land.

A series of fires in the mountains and hills above Belfast and in the Mountains of Mourne in Co Down have been started deliberately since Easter.

On one occasion, youths were seen starting fires in the Mournes but managed to escape.
