A court in Tokyo has cleared a Japanese businessman of the murder of 21-year-old British woman Lucie Blackman.
However, Joji Obara was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping nine other women.
Ms Blackman had been working as a bar hostess in the city. The former British Airways flight attendant disappeared in July 2000.
Her dismembered body was discovered in a cave at a beach outside Tokyo seven months later.
Property developer Obara, 54, who owned an apartment nearby, was arrested shortly afterwards.
There has been no reaction to the verdict so far from Ms Blackman's family.
However, beforehand, her sister Sophie said that not knowing what had happened to her at the time was agonising.
