Killarney - Man charged over death

A 23-year-old man has been before the District Court in Killarney, Co Kerry, charged in connection with the death last Sunday of 30-year old James Brazier.

Gerard O'Riordan of Arbutus Grove, Killarney, was charged with assault causing harm to Mr Brazier.

James Brazier died at Kerry General Hospital at 5am last Sunday morning, just over two hours after gardaí were called to this house at Pinewood Estate in Killarney.

Mr Brazier, 30, had suffered several serious injuries, after he had been attacked at the house.

Preliminary results of a post mortem examination on his body led investigating gardaí to treat his death as murder.

The victim was born in Killarney but had lived in England for many years before returning to Kerry over a year ago.

He was unemployed and had been in trouble prior to last weekend, when he spent most of last Saturday drinking around the town.

Since then, gardaí have been piecing together his last movements, as well as seeking a motive for his killing.

Gerard O'Riordan was granted free legal aid by the court. He was remanded in custody to Cork Prison, and he will be back in court again next Thursday.
