A Russian ban on Polish meat that has been 'blocking' diplomatic arteries between the EU and Russia could soon come to an end.

A new report based on joint veterinary inspections is positive about the progress made by Polish authorities to Russian concerns.

The European Commission says this is an important step towards solving this dispute, which is holding up the start of negotiations on a new EU-Russia partnership.

EC spokesperson Philip Tod said the commission would send Russia further information early next week to try to remove outstanding issues.

EU Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou will also meet his Russian counterpart next week to discuss the dispute.
