The Road Safety Authority has appealed to motorists to exercise greater caution in the run up to the Bank Holiday weekend.
It follows the deaths of six people on the roads during the first two days of this month.
This morning, a man died in a single-vehicle accident in Co Longford. He has been named locally as T.P Pettit, with an address at Garvary, Moyne, Co Longford.
He died instantly when his Toyota car left the road on the Drumlish to Arva road at Monaduff at around 5.30am.

Death toll on roads rises to 91
This morning's death brings to 91 the number of people killed on the roads so far this year.
That figure is down ten on the same period last year.
Of those who died so far this year, 37 were drivers, 29 were pedestrians, 17 were passengers, four were motorcyclists, two were cyclists and two were pillion passengers.
Meanwhile, 394 people were arrested on suspicion of drink driving in the last week.
This brings the total so far this year to more than 4,500.
