A man in his 70s has been killed in a road accident in Co Clare.

The car he was driving collided head-on with a van at Killimer at 1pm this afternoon.

Two people were treated for injuries at Ennis General Hospital but their injuries are not life-threatening.

In a separate accident, a man in his mid-20s was seriously injured at Tullaghan, Co Leitrim, on the main Sligo to Bundoran road.

A car and a truck were involved in the collision at about 3.30pm.

The man has been taken to Sligo General Hospital.

Victim of Leitrim crash is named

The man who died on Saturday following a road accident in Co Leitrim on 18 March has been named.

Niall Higgins, 18, from Drumshanbo in Leitrim, died in Beaumont Hospital as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash near Carrick-on-Shannon.

The collision happened on the R280 at Ballynamony shortly before 3am on Sunday 18 March.

Mr Higgins was a pedestrian who was struck by a car.
