The Mater Private Hospital was due to submit a tender to the Health Service Executive today for the development of four private hospitals on public hospital sites throughout the country.

The HSE says it is part of an ongoing process for the building of sites at ten public hospital locations around the country.

The four sites included in the plan are Beaumont in Dublin, University College Hospital in Galway, Limerick's Mid-Western Regional Hospital and the regional hospital in Waterford.

The Chief Executive of the Mater Private Fergus Clancy said its decision follows the HSE's initiative to allow for synergy between public and private sectors which would benefit patients.

A spokesperson for the HSE said that it is just the start of the tendering process for the building of private hospitals at ten public hospital locations and that it will assess the bid along with all the other proposals.
