The Government has launched a €1m fund for projects to give computer skills to older people and people with disabilities.

Tom Kitt, the Minister for the Information Society, is looking for proposals for projects to encourage participation by these groups, because CSO statistics show them to be late adopters of computerisation.

The announcement was made during a visit by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, and the Communications Minister, Noel Dempsey, to the Mobile Computer Clubhouse.

The Clubhouse is visiting a number of areas in the Dublin suburbs in an effort to enhance computer skills.
