Michael Jackson - Trial nears conclusion
Michael Jackson - Trial nears conclusion

The closing arguments in the Michael Jackson child molestation trial in California got underway today.

Judge Rodney Melville has told the eight women and four men of the jury that they can expect to begin their deliberations some time tomorrow.

The judge said they must determine the facts from the testimony, follow the law as presented by the judge, and make their decision without pity for or prejudice towards the defendant.

The 46-year-old pop star denies the charges against him.

Charge altered

Judge Melville yesterday allowed the prosecution to alter one of the charges from one of giving alcohol with the intent to abuse to a lesser charge of giving alcohol to minors.

Jackson faces ten charges in all including child molestation and conspiracy to abduct. He faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

Since the trial got underway three months ago, 135 witnesses have given evidence including the 15-year-old accuser, his brother and mother.

Both the prosecution and defence have been given four hours each to make their closing arguments.
