A 37-year-old man who abused sixteen boys and girls in Cork City has been jailed for seven years.

James Lombard, from Blarney Street in the Sunday's Well area of Cork, was described as a paedophile with an active compunction to prey on and abuse children.

Judge Sean Ó Donobhain said Lombard presented a risk into the future.

He suspended two years of the jail sentence on strict conditions and he placed Lombard on the register of sex offenders indefinitely.

Lombard was extradited from England last June to face the abuse charges.

Last February, after all evidence in his trial was heard, he skipped bail and went on the run for three weeks. He was eventually re-arrested after being spotted by a member of the public in Carrigaline, Co Cork.
