At least 15 people were killed in two suicide car bombs near a military building southeast of Baghdad today.

The bombs went off in a street packed with rush-hour traffic.

Reports say police officers and children were among 40 people injured.

Al-Qaeda has said it carried out the attacks.

Two other bombs were found in the area and were detonated by controlled explosions that caused no casualties.

Reporters at the scene had earlier said that a third bomb killed one person.

The blasts come a day after a series of explosions around Iraq that killed at least 15 people.
