SIPTU has called on the Labour Relations Commission to chair the talks between unions and management at Dublin's Shelbourne Hotel.
The call comes following a meeting between SIPTU and the management this afternoon.
SIPTU want improvements in the redundancy package on offer for workers who will be laid off on Monday, 4 April when the hotel closes for 18 months to be refurbished.
Under the company's plans, employees with more than two years' service will be paid five and a half weeks' salary for each year of service.
SIPTU is seeking to have this increased to six and a half weeks' salary. The union represents almost half of the hotel's 247 employees.
