A ceremony of commemoration to mark Holocaust Memorial Day took place in City Hall in Dublin this evening.

Among those who attended where Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Dublin's Lord Mayor Michael Conaghan and the ambassadors of the US, Britain, Canada and Russia.

Members of the Jewish community in Ireland also took part in the ceremony, and other groups who were persecuted by the Nazis including gypsies, gay people and people with disabilities were also remembered.
