Police in the North say that a fire outside a block of flats in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, early this morning was started deliberately and was racially motivated.

Eight people including a child, five of them Portuguese, were rescued by police officers from the building at Irish Street shortly before 5am.

The PSNI say a passing motorist noticed bins outside the flats on fire.

Police were called to the scene and noticed that electricity junction boxes had also been set alight.
