A Dublin Bus driver has appeared at Dublin District Court following an accident last February on Wellington Quay in which five people were killed.

Kenneth Henvy of Whitethorn Crescent, Clondalkin, was charged with dangerous driving causing death.

Det Sgt John Doyle told the court that Kenneth Henvy was charged at Pearse Street Garda Station at 10.13am this morning. When charged he replied that he had nothing to say.

Det Sgt Doyle said he had no objection to bail. Judge James Paul McDonnell then asked why the details for the charge had been broadcast on radio this morning and had appeared in a national newspaper.

He said there were three interested parties in the case, the accused who continues to enjoy a presumption of innocence, the people who were injured and the DPP who has an obligation to ensure the integrity of the prosecution.

He remanded Mr Henvy on continuing bail to appear at the Dublin District Court on 5 October.

He also asked for an indication by the DPP whether he considered it necessary to take any steps to ensure the integrity of the prosecution.
