A man and a woman were injured in a fall on MacGillacuddy Reeks in Co Kerry yesterday evening.

The 70-year-old man and 67-year-old woman, who are both Irish, were in a group of six people when they fell about 100ft onto a narrow ledge, at around 2,000ft above sea level.

Poor weather meant it took several hours for rescue workers to bring them down the mountain.

The rescue mission was not completed until 4.30am this morning.

Both suffered injuries to the head, legs and chest and were taken to hospital in Tralee. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
