The husband of singer, Dolores O'Riordan, claimed in the High Court today he was unaware that Joy Fahy had any problems in her employment with his family until she told him she wanted to leave.
Don Burton also denied allegations of constant heavy drinking, reneging on the terms of a contract with her or endangering the life of his child.
Ms Fahy, who worked for the couple as a nanny, is suing the them for alleged breach of contract.
Don Burton said he was surprised he was still alive given the level of drinking that Joy Fahy claimed he was doing during the six weeks she worked for the family in 1999.
Mr Burton said he never heard Joy Fahy complain about anything other than the stereo or the wipers on the jeep available to her in Kilmallock.
He added that he was not aware of any rows or abusiveness towards Ms Fahy.
