President Mary McAleese had a 45-minute meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, in London this afternoon.

The meeting centred on the role of churches in reconciliation in Ireland.

Dr Williams became Archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the worldwide Anglican faith last year.

President McAleese met the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Murphy O'Connor, on a previous visit.

This morning, President McAleese met pensioners in Southwark who emigrated from Ireland in the post-war years.

Later this evening, she will speak at the London Business School where she is expected to praise the role which business people on both islands have played in improving relations between Ireland and Britain.
