A new survey shows that almost 50% of people favour cutting public spending rather than increasing borrowing or raising taxes to balance the public finances.

A poll in today's Irish Times shows 48% of people said they would cut spending, while 29% said they would increase borrowing and 9% said they would raise taxes.

The poll, carried out by TNS/MRBRI, also shows that 43% of people support the payment of the benchmarking awards to public servants.
