A 32-year-old Co Limerick woman has been fined €1,000 for an `air rage' assault on an Aer Lingus cabin crew member on board a transatlantic flight last Sunday.

Ms Diane Clohessy, with an address in California, pleaded guilty at Killaloe District Court to the assault on the senior cabin crew manager, Francis McNeill on the New York to Shannon flight.

Ms Clohessy was also fined an additional €250 after pleading guilty to engaging in insulting behaviour.

Ms Clohessy was also ordered to pay €800 in costs.

The court heard that Ms Clohessy became abusive, aggressive and insulting after being refused alcohol.

A spokeswoman for Aer Lingus confirmed after court that Ms Clohessy is now banned from travelling with the company for life.

Gardaí arrested Ms Clohessy when the flight arrived at Shannon.
