A judge at the Old Bailey in London has sentenced a 46-year-old Galway man to life imprisonment. Patrick Folan was sentenced for the murder of his wife 20 years ago.

Folan was convicted of strangling his wife, Michelle Folan, and of burying her body under a concrete floor on a building site. Her remains were only discovered two years ago, when the building was being demolished.

Michelle Folan was born in London, of Irish parents. Her father was from Waterford and her mother from Castleisland, County Kerry.

Following the murder, Patrick Folan had continued to live at the family home in Archway in North London and bring up the couple's two young children.
