O'Brien questioned about Maloney conversation

Lawyers for the Moriarty Tribunal have asked Denis O'Brien why he did not tell told the Tribunal about the conversation he had with Barry Maloney in 1996. They have also asked why the Tribunal was not told about the serious concerns the contents of this conversation had caused the Boards of both Esat Digifone and Esat Telecom one year later.

This conversation with Mr Maloney led to a concern that Mr O'Brien may have paid money to the then Minister Michael Lowry. John Coughlan for the Tribunal asked Mr O'Brien why neither he, nor any of the other people involved in a subsequent investigation into the matter, had ever contacted the Tribunal. Mr Coughlan said that there appeared to have been a huge attempt to keep it all under wraps at the time.
