Ireland's Darren Clarke shares the lead with four Japanese rivals after the first round of the $1.3 million Taiheiyo Masters in Gotemba, Japan. Clarke finished the first round at six-under-par 66 after chipping in for an eagle at the par-five third hole and he carded four more birdies at the 7,072-yard Taiheiyo Club Gotemba course. The Irishman shares the lead with Naomichi Ozaki, Hajime Meshiai, Hirofumi Miyase and Hideki Kase.

Defending champion Lee Westwood got off to a bogey-free start and ended the first round at one stroke off the pace.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Robinson, Johan Skold and Micheal Campbell on 6-under share the lead after the first round of the Johnnie Walker Classic at Western Resort Ta Shee in Taiwan.

The defending Champion Tiger Woods is 4-under after his round while the only Irish player involved, Paul McGinley finished 1-over-par.
