The 33rd Ryder Cup starts at Brookline at 12.30 today. Europe is aiming to retain the trophy against a very strong United States team. Two Irishmen will be involved in the opening foursomes: Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington. Padraig Harrington will partner Miguel Angel Jiminez after Jose Maria Olazabal ruled himself out of the foursomes due to his poor form. Harrington and Jimenez will take on Davis Love and Payne Stewart in the third match out and in the last match Dungannon's Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood meet Jeff Maggert and Hal Sutton. Colin Montgomerie and Paul Lawrie play David Duval and Phil Mickelson, and Sergio Garcia and Jesper Parnevik play Tom Lehman and Tiger Woods.

Meanwhile, Ireland meets England today for the Raymond Trophy in the Men's Home Internationals at Royal County Down. Yesterday, Ireland beat Scotland by 10 and a half to 4 and a half while England easily beat Wales. In the Women's home internationals at Royal Dornoch in Scotland, Ireland was beaten 7 and a half to 1 and a half by Wales.
