Four men are being detained in Dundalk Garda Station, following a drugs seizure in County Louth last night. Gardaí recovered 35,000 ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of £500,000, after they stopped a car travelling north on the Dublin-Belfast road, about three miles outside Dundalk.

The tablets were discovered when Gardaí stopped a BMW car on the main road between Newry and Dundalk at around 9.30pm last night. According to the Gardaí two of the men are from County Clare and the third from County Limerick. The other man is from the North. All are being detained under Section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Act at Dundalk Garda Station. Gardaí say the drugs had come into the country from Amsterdam just a few hours earlier.

Meanwhile, cannabis resin with a street value of £1million has been seized by drug squad officers in Newtonards in the North. One man has been arrested.
